Mayor Race
Being objective when it comes to this race will be quite difficult. After all, we haven’t been shy about our disdain for Councilwoman Smith. However, our opinion is just that, our opinion. Both candidates have robust name recognition, that’s why this one will be settled the old fashion way…by the person who knocks on the most doors.
Both candidates will undoubtedly talk about the recycled, over-used, and never fully explained, boiler-plate issues. Public Safety, Jobs, Growth, and Revitalizing Downtown.
The key to this race will be ideas and vision. Which candidate has a plan for Patterson that can move the city forward with scarce resources. Gone are the days when Fat Cat developers wrote checks for pet projects, in return for a hassle free entitlement process. The next Mayor of Patterson will have to be creative and innovative in charting a new course for a city with a depleting general fund coffer.

Decision to appeal court decision
Despite having already spent $275,000 on the case in this fiscal year, the council decided it was worth moving forward, partly because of a precedent set by the state Supreme Court in a similar case last year.
“When the council took the action of suing, it wasn’t to test the water,” Smith said.
What does this mean? Disturbing to see her throw around precious tax dollars like that, we could have funded the teen center FULLY for a year if she and others weren’t so careless. If she had to earn that 275k, she may have taken a different tone.

Okay, the last line was pretty funny. I still believe that local politics can be free from special interests, in contrast to state/fed.
Look, these people get a small stipend for hours of work. Do some of them use there position to help some special groups, yes. Does it have to be that way, no. Dishonest, unethical political hacks are the exception in Patterson, not the rule.
