Patterson City Hall: Lots of Tricks, Little Treats

happy halloween

With all the buzz surrounding city hall these days, we thought it would be nice to take a break in the action and celebrate our $27,000 contribution with the recorder’s rather appropriate production.  If you can”t laugh, maybe you should cry.

How many youth recreation scholarships could this money buy?  How many months of service for an extra deputy on the beat?  How many afterschool events for “loitering youths” could we fund with the $27,000?  What we really want to know is ……..do they think the people of Patterson will stand for this?

I think that we also need to take in to consideration the amount that was paid to Logan. I am pretty sure that he was on the payroll while he silently sat in the planning commission meeting to provide counsel. If he was paid for that time, then we need to tack that on to the $27,000 dollars. Then, we need to, as a city, evaluate the amount of time that he was being paid by the city, yet providing counsel to Ramos. Take that, along with any other wages that the city paid. Add them together and then use that to figure out what they just tossed to the wind. We might really be able to afford more police officers.

Rumor also has it that the city is now forcing the non-profits in town to pay fees for using the city parks. Rather hefty fees at that. Maybe this is one way to recoup the $27K. Also, has anyone seen the rates that the city plans on charging for using the senior center? WOW, who can afford them? As Adrienne said “I realize this is a senior center and not a community center, but it is the only public facility we have, and there will be a lot of requests for rentals.” There may be a lot of requests, but with those prices, there won’t be many reservations. Pretty soon they will be putting a toll booth at the sports park and charging people to go there. (Come on, you know they have thought of it.)

I am a supporter of the local non-profits, the service clubs and youth organizations (boy/girl scouts, American heritage girls, ….) and I have heard from at least three of them that they are upset, and worried, at the fees the city wants to charge them. Doesn’t the city understand that these groups do the community a service? Don’t they understand that many of them operate on very limited funds? And now, any funds that the groups do raise, the city will want to get more of a cut.

Wow, I was just browsing the Irrigator’s website and see that Logan lost yet another one. And this one he lost before he could even argue. The US Supreme Court, yes, the US one, has denied the petition for the city against the developers. The link to the Irrigator article is:
    http://www.pattersonirrigator.com/pages/full_story/push?article-High+court+won%E2%80%99t+hear+city%E2%80%99s+case%20&id=4514289-High+court+won%E2%80%99t+hear+city%E2%80%99s+case&instance=home_news_second_lead_story

Now, two things come to mind. Hopefully, it wasn’t our city attorney that worked on the petition, as that could really embarrass the city.

The other is this. I am curious why the city was fighting it, unless Ramos had absolutely nothing to gain from it. I guess since the city was fighting it, he is not one of the developers that will be getting their money back, nor are any of his friends getting their money back. The developers that stand to get their money back must all have nothing to do with the current city council or Ramos. Otherwise, it would have been handled in the back room, under the table. In other words, in closed session of the city council.
